Adsense and Privacy Policy Important Read

Important ---- Important Changes to AdSense Terms & Conditions

Privacy Policy Must now be implemented if running Adsense

On February 26th Google implemented a new set of
AdSense terms & conditions and program policies.

Most times I suspect like most other small publishers I just hit the yes to accept button and thought no more about it.

This latest T's & C's are much more important because you must ensure you have added earlier or will add soon something on your blog or website to abide by the new Terms

To run Adsense Now you must have a privacy policy on your blog, website

Below is the relevant sentence from the new T's & C's

"You must have and abide by an appropriate privacy policy that clearly discloses that third parties may be placing and reading cookies on your users’ browser, or using web beacons to collect information, in the course of ads being served on your website. Your privacy policy should also include information about user options for cookie management."

So what and Why has this been done and what is it for.

Mainly because even if you do not create a cookie on your visitors computer Google or Google's advertisers will and your privacy policy should state this.

There is a great post at Jensense Explains New Google Terms and Conditions

As I have said before I do not run advertising of any kind currently on this blog or The Power Guides so I have not implemented.

But I do have a site where I Run Adsense For Search The People History and I have included the recommended Privacy Policy that Jensense recommends on my about page

The information in the log files include your IP (internet protocol) address, your ISP (internet service provider, such as AOL or Shaw Cable), the browser you used to visit our site (such as Internet Explorer or Firefox), the time you visited our site and which pages you visited throughout our site.

Cookies and Web Beacons

We also use third party advertisements on thepeoplehistory.com to support our site. Some of these advertisers may use technology such as cookies and web beacons when they advertise on our site, which will also send these advertisers (such as Google through the Google AdSense program) information including your IP address, your ISP , the browser you used to visit our site, and in some cases, whether you have Flash installed. This is generally used for geotargeting purposes (showing New York real estate ads to someone in New York, for example) or showing certain ads based on specific sites visited (such as showing cooking ads to someone who frequents cooking sites).

You can chose to disable or selectively turn off our cookies or third-party cookies in your browser settings, or by managing preferences in programs such as Norton Internet Security. However, this can affect how you are able to interact with our site as well as other websites. I believe this may well be enforced at some time in the future and sites / blogs may well be checked by Google that they are in compliance with the latest Terms and Conditions so you are better off doing this now rather than later.
